    Unity of Spirit

    By Dan | May 24, 2008

Do you ever feel frustrated when you read blogs?

This whole community of people talking about some issue or another and they’re all reading the same stuff, watching the same show, game, etc and yet they can’t agree.  Even within the Christian blogosphere, or maybe even moreso, there is a lot of disunity.

I’ll admit it frustrates me every once in a while.  I go to a blog and make what I think is this nice, clear post that should help people understand something a little better, and then when I read replies people just don’t seem to get it.  They’re reading the same Bible, worshipping the same Jesus, and yet have some very different understandings.

Well, there’s a place for discouragement, but there’s even more room for encouragement. After all, they do have the same Bible and same Lord.  And God promises to us that he will give us ultimate unity in heaven, but even before the second coming, we can get little foretastes.  So by all means keep dialoguing, and be open to the conversation, the little insights, and celebrate as we all journey closer to the day of ultimate unity.

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.
