Heavenly Question of the Day
By John | June 30, 2008
In honor of Scot McKnight’s new Biblical word study on ‘heaven’, I’ve got a simple question for you today.
What are you looking forward to in heaven?

I probably “should” say no more pain or heart breaks, just the calm and peace. However, how about all the chocolate I want with no weight gain!???

I’m looking forward to getting a tee time when it is convenient for me and the course will have minimum water hazards and no “out of bounds”(of course, God’s love knows no bounds)

I look forward to knowing God’s plan for the world and understanding His will and not questioning what I should be doing but just enjoying being in His presence…always. Oh, and the chocolate sounds good too, Anita!

I look forward to the peace of knowing the “right” answer to life’s questions - no more gray areas. I also really look forward to being reunited with family members that have passed away.

What, no votes for the great harp music yet?
Part of me wants to say having some great theological conversations with Jesus, but I’m imagining a lot of those conversations will be much less relevant and much clearer to me come heaven.
The other part of me is really excited about the prospect of finally having time for those activities which I love (or did love) and rarely have enough time for anymore. Heavenly version of fishing and hunting, long hikes, novels, etc.
By the way, as John says your “heavenly thoughts”, that begs the question- are we discussing heaven (the state we’ll be in until Jesus returns) or heaven (the new heavens/new earth resurrection world after Jesus returns).

Dan, when I asked the question I didn’t want to get into the NT Wright resurrection mindset shift, but since you asked…
Of course we’re talking about the resurrection!
I’ve found that most people at my church say heaven, but describe it as what the resurrection life will be. That’s cool with me.
What I’m looking forward to? One word…
