Pop Goes the Church 5
By John | June 3, 2008
The final 2 chapters of PGTC make up my favorite part of the book. We’ll take chapter 12 (of 13) today. Tim Stevens summarizes his interviews with 20 churches about how they have used pop culture, and not always positively or ‘successfully’, to share the Gospel with their communities. To find out more about these 20 churches, go to PopGoestheChurch.com and type in the keyword ’stories’.
Here’s a great list of quotes from this chapter, along with who said it & a link to their church’s website.
I think of movies and music as idols to an unknown god. They raise spiritual questions and I think we’ve got answers.
Mark Batterson – National Community Church
Every church is relevant to pop culture; some are just relevant to a pop culture of yesterday.
Bil Cornelius – Bay Area Fellowship
People far from God can smell a gimmick and the end result can be worse than no attempt at all!
Mike Moore – Crossroads Grace CC
The traditional church has so often been known for what they’re against rather than what they are for.
Chunks Corbett – Elevation Church
Who do you most closely align with?
Which one of these best describes the attitude at your church?
Do you or your church leaders think this way?
