    Booming Question of the Week

    By John | July 7, 2008

“Daddy, fireworks go boom! boom!”  - Ethan (2)

When I was a kid, our fireworks experience was something like this:

park a half mile away, find a fantastic spot to put our blanket down, get swarmed by unchaperoned teenagers, move our blanket to a substandard spot, wait forever for it to get dark, watch 20 *booming* fireworks over the next 40 minutes, get deluged by the 2 minute finale (20 fireworks in 2 minutes is quite impressive following 20 over 40 minutes), find our way back to the car, grumble the whole way home about how next year we’ll remember to bring a flashlight and bug spray, and at the very end of the night, we would all lie in bed listening to all of the selfish neighbors light off their own illegal fireworks until 1 or 2 in the morning (while scratching all the places where an entire population of mosquitoes had their 4th of July picnic).

Now, my son Ethan will grow up with fireworks shows like this:

There\'s a big clue in the picture

Some of the best fireworks shows are set to music, some incorporate lasers, others just rely on the simple joy of continuously blowing stuff up.

What’s the best fireworks show you’ve seen?
    What made it so special?

    Contest Question:
Where did the fireworks show in the picture above take place?

Based on the white structure in the bottom-right of the photograph, I’d say Sydney, Australia.

Yeah, I thought it was kind of ironic that I used a picture of fireworks from Australia to illustrate America’s Independence Day…
