    In a Pit with a Lion 4

    By John | July 14, 2008

For the next few weeks we’ll be using Mark Batterson’s “In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day” to help us stimulate a conversation about God-given opportunities in our lives.  He blogs at: evotional.com

I sure hope you don’t have a case of the Mondays today!

If you do, I suppose you could take it out on your annoyingly unpredictable printer/copier.

If you watched the movie Office Space, you saw how someone’s day could get progressively & exponentially worse as the minutes ticked along.  Is that how you view your life?

Well, I sure hope it’s not that bad, but I’m sure you’ve experienced enough to know that life is not all roses and unicorns and treasures at the end of rainbows.  And I don’t think I have to tell you that life is unpredictable & challenging.

You also know that bad things happen to all of us, not just to good people.  And you know that we all get surrounded by circumstances that are unfair & uncomfortable & unenjoyable.

This is another principle taken from Benaiah (II Samuel 23:20-23) standing at the edge of the pit with the lion staring up at him.

We should stop asking God to get us out of difficult circumstances and start asking him what he wants us to get out of those difficult circumstances.

How can we reframe our perspective on life to allow us to do this?

    WORSHIP!

Worship is the way out of seeing your life like a black hole that continuously sucks all of the joy and hope and love out of everything and the way into seeing that your life has an important purpose in God’s eyes!

Worship is the way to break through the chains of discontent that imprison you and experience the freedom of life in Christ!

Worship is the way to forget what’s wrong with you and what’s right with God!

Is there an area in your life that is challenging or uncomfortable or just plain bad that you could replace with worship?
