Whether we like it or not, our world has changed around us.  Here are a few signs of this new era:

  • Just this morning, I taught a 70 year old man how to use an iPhone
  • These are mass-marketed dolls for young girls
  • This kind of honesty from a President
  • One generation after Civil Rights protests, an African-American President is elected.  Especially one who could give such a landmark speech.
  • The generation in college right now didn’t view race as a significant factor in the election (isn’t that the sign of a complete victory for the Civil Rights movement?)

In light of all of this, how does the church continue to communicate the gospel with people who live in this society?  One of the most influential thinkers about this issue is Leonard Sweet – check him out here.

Way back in 2000 he wrote a book called Post-modern Pilgrims which I’d like for us to discuss.  On Tuesdays for the month of December, we’ll talk about the 4 elements of Sweet’s EPIC paradigm of communicating with the post-modern generations.

  • E – experiential
  • P – participatory
  • I – image-driven
  • C – connected

If you’d like to read along, you can purchase the book from your local book seller or from the Amazon link below.
