Obviously Jesus is nothing new to the web. People have been talking about Jesus, I imagine, since the very beginning stages. But I thought it would be interesting to spend a few weeks doing a series looking at some different sites dedicated to the faith. Some I hit will probably be new ones you haven’t seen, some may be big ones that have an impressive standing already, but hopefully in this series we can start to give each other a glance into how Jesus is interacting with us through the World Wide Web.
The first site I want you to check out is a newer one called iamsecond.com and this is a good one. I’ve actually seen some billboards out there promoting it and I’m curious to see if you have too? Have any of you checked this site out yet? I am very impressed. It evangelizes on the web in a powerful way. It draws together stories and testimonies of people as they find out how Christ can change their lives. And it moves across the spectrum, everything from the testimony of a former member of Korn (Brian Welch), to Nascar great Darrell Waltrip. Their stories are touching and done well enough to impress our media saavy generation. What I like though, is it’s not just random testimonies, they are, I love you (says Jess to me as I write this) drawn together around the theme of how God must become first in our lives. If that is the case, we can truly find happiness as we find our place in life following him.
The other thing I like about this site is that it’s put together in an effective way. The testimonies each have different themes (pride, success, meaning, racism, etc) in addition to the overall direction. Also you can find access to them though a page in the site that asks the big questions people have- “Why does God allow bad things to happen?” to “What’s so great about the Bible?” This is a great site and I heavily recommend you check it out both for personal reflection and as a reference to nonChristian friends. They can then come back to you or even dialogue with the site some by chatting or sending in their own story. It’s also a great resource for use within the church. We’re going to draw on it for our youth service this weekend.
I hope you check this site out and if you have any that you’d like to me to check out and review for our broader audience, by all means let me know. (They can even be ones you don’t like!)
