In all honesty I think Pearl Divers was one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. It’s not one you probably heard much about- small production company, but it was truly fascinating.
It’s the tale of two sisters and their relationship as they deal with two powerful dynamics, a tragic accident in the present and a horrible pain in their past. As they deal with the present, they’re forced to also deal with the past. Not only does it do a good job of winding together these two stories, it does so with powerful dialogue, good acting, and it keeps one watching because the incident from their past is a little bit of a murder mystery where we only learn a little at a time.
This is one of those movies I really recommend you get. Definitely one Jesus would digg. It’s not just interesting, it brings up important themes like faith, forgiveness, secrets, and relationship. One of the best parts is that the movie allows us to move into the gray area of how people deal with pain in different ways. The two sisters are different and go in different directions, but as the movie progresses and comes to a conclusion they learn something from each other, both growing. It’s true, there’s not a right answer always in dealing with pain and we’d do well to learn from each other as opposed to simply sticking to our own way.
Rent it and tell me what you think!
