I’ve had a couple of people forward me a story about a Cherokee male’s rite of passage.
It’s an interesting forward. It’s one of those where you wonder if it’s true or not. From the research I did, I couldn’t find anything to verify it as a real Cherokee initiation ritual. The one source that seemed to know something about Cherokee rituals stated that they weren’t aware of such a ritual but did know of a different one.
I do like the overall message- there are so many times in our life where we are scared, where we feel blindfolded, like we’re all alone trying to figure it out and almost anything might hurt us at any moment, yet that’s not the case. We do have a Father watching over us, and it’s one who’s even more loving and powerful than our earthly fathers. That’s a nice truth to have in your hands as you walk through your day.
On a sidenote, you’ll notice that the place I sent you for the actual forward included some blogging and discussion. It’s interesting to read through these comments. Some are pretty dismissive and even hostile towards Christianity. Is that related to the use of forwards like this? What do you think is underneath such comments when you hear or read them?
