Recently Brian Williams asked people to tell him stories of good news they’ve witnessed even in the midst of a time where so many are suffering.
It’s kind of an interesting idea. How have you been feeling in the midst of these times? Does this idea sound like a ploy or like something that is just trying to escape reality for a little, or is it a good idea for the news to search out something different than simply more reporting of unemployment and frustration in wars.
As a Christian, the reality is that we have to have both pessimist and optimist in us. We realize that people are born with original sin, and so when we hear the news of brokenness here and around the world, we’re not completely surprised, after all, people are tempted to sin, and the world is broken. It will never be fixed by us, only when Jesus returns will that happen.
At the same time, we are optimists. We know that Christ has paid for all sin, and that as we live out our faith Christians can make a difference. They can be a little part of making his kingdom come, even if it’s only a taste of the future joy.
So I like this idea overall. Yeah, let’s see some good, because God will bring good about too. In fact, God sometimes places great beauty and joy even in the midst of suffering and pain, that was the cross after all, something we’re reminded so deeply of in this Lenten season.
So go ahead, report a story of some good you see right now, even in the midst of hard times.
