This week, let’s look at a song that’s been around for a while – All Creatures of Our God and King.  William Draper paraphrased St. Francis of Assissi’s  Canticle of the Sun and set this new text to a 17th century German tune.  The result = an easily singable tune that has been popularly reworked by David Crowder Band and other contemporary Christian bands.  Check out the 2007 LCMS Youth Gathering Band covering this hymn… (I was there!)

Tomorrow, we’ll dig into the lyrics – which bear almost no resemblance to the original St. Francis poem.  Enjoy the video and we’ll see you back here tomorrow…

Here is the popular version of the lyrics…

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
Oh, praise Him - Alleluia
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
Oh, praise Him - Oh, praise Him
Alleluia –  Alleluia - Alleluia

Thou rushing wind that art so strong
Ye clouds that sail in heav’n along
Oh, praise Him - Alleluia
Thou rising moon in praise rejoice
Ye lights of evening find a voice
Oh, praise Him - Oh, praise Him
Alleluia –  Alleluia - Alleluia

Let all things their creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
Oh, praise Him - Alleluia
Praise, praise the Father praise the Son
And praise the Spirit three in one
Oh, praise Him - Oh, praise Him
Alleluia –  Alleluia - Alleluia

Praise, praise the Father praise the Son
And praise the Spirit three in one
Oh, praise Him - Oh, praise Him
Alleluia –  Alleluia - Alleluia
